The last day of May 2009

The last day of May 2009 was spent over at Jack's mom's house.  We took all of our dogs over there.  She proceeded to ask what we were going to do with the dogs if we moved.  I hadn't thought about that yet.  What if we aren't able to find a place that will let us have all of our dogs there?  We will be forced to make a decision.  I just don't think I can do that.  I am going to be crazy determined to find somewhere to stay that I can have all three of my dogs.  I told Mo that I didn't even want to talk about something like that yet.  I don't see how anyone can just give up their dogs.  Dogs are so unconditional when it comes to love.  They are always happy to see you.  I am hoping that if we make this move, we will be able to have a house where it won't matter.  I know that Ken was looking for a house, so maybe this is a good sign.  Hopefully he will be able to find a house that he wants to own, and we can all move into it...dogs included.  Lucky for us Ken loves our dogs.  :)

It is currently 4:47 am

I am starting this blog because I have insomnia because I cannot stop thinking about possibly moving to California.  Let me catch you up to speed.

My husband, Jack, was injured on the job on January 6, 2008.  He was getting workman's comp until he got his settlement in December of 2008.  He should have been released from his job at that point, but for some reason (I am really irritated by this) he was never released from his job. They have kept him on Active Medical Leave.  What this means to us is that we haven't been receiving any money from workman's comp or any money from unemployment.  My paycheck has been paying for all the bills.  We used the settlement to pay off all of our bills, fix my car, and help pay the bills.  To finish this, I will say money does not last forever.

It is now May 31.  Jack was finally offered a job.  His cousin offered him one.  We were very excited.  He was going to start in a "couple of weeks."  This phrase has been said about 4 times now.  Each time we heard this phrase, we would get excited.  Finally, we would be able to have extra cash.  We might actually be able to go to the grocery store and buy everything that we wanted.  A week and a half ago, Jack's cousin called and said for him to come in and train.  His cousin realizes how quickly he learns and tells him that he will start on Monday.  Sunday comes around, and his cousin calls and tells him that he will be out of town until Wednesday.  He wants Jack to start on Thursday, so he can be there to let Jack know what all his job requires.  Wednesday, the cousin calls again.  Someone got hurt on the job and now they have to give him light duty.  Sorry Jack, two more weeks.  Great...three more weeks of being broke.

Then Ken, Jack's best friend, calls.  He says that they have a position open.  This position is in California.  The money is good.  Ken wants to know if Jack would be willing to move.  Of course Jack, the wonderful husband that he is, says he will have to talk to me about it.  I initially look at him and tell him Ken is crazy if he thinks I am moving all the way to California.  I then proceed to Blockbuster to return our movies.  While I am out, I decide to drive around.  I drive around when I want some alone time.  While out driving, I start really thinking about the California thing.  I realize something is telling me that we need to do this.  I drive home.  Jack is still on the phone with Ken.  He asks me to stay in the room.  When he gets off the phone, he asks me if I would consider it.  He wants my opinion.  This is my opinion...If we are going to make a move like this, now is the time.  We have no kids.  I am finished with school.  I can transfer for my job, so I really don't have to worry about that.  You know what..why not?  I would love to tell the story to my kids about how we picked up everything and moved all the way across the country.  I told Jack that our parents' would only be a 4 hour plane flight away.  I know that he really wants to do this for a living, and I can do what I want to do no matter where I live.  For him to live in the Nashville area, and do what he loves, would cause him to travel.  He would never be around.  So anyway back to the story.  Ken says that there is a gig coming up and that he will try to get Jack the gig, and Jack needed to send him his resume so he could give it to his boss.

Apparently the boss liked what he saw on the resume.  Jack is leaving on the 8th to go to California to do the gig, and it is also basically a chance for him to see if he likes the company.  If he does, we will be moving all the way across the country.

I told Jack that maybe all of this with the job with his cousin was supposed to work like this.  Maybe this is what we are supposed to do.  One of the many puzzle pieces of life (we will discuss this at a later time).

I do want to do this.  I am just thinking a lot about the future.  I don't want to tell anyone I work with until I know for sure.  They all know he is going to California to work for a few days, but that is all I have told them.  I can only imagine the reaction I will get.  There is already a pharmacist and a tech leaving and another is having a baby.  I have always said, "What would they do if I wasn't here?"  well they might be experiencing that soon enough.  What if, when I put in a transfer, they don't have a store that is close by that needs any help.  I looked today and there is a store manager position open, but who knows if that will still be open when Jack makes his decision.  One of my other concerns is that we didn't want to live with anyone else after we got married, but I don't know if we will have that choice if we move; at least not a first.  I really would love to get a house.

Well now that I have some of this off my chest, I am going to try to sleep.  It is 5:32, and the sun is up.  I should have been asleep 5 hours ago.
